LA JOLLA SHORES ASSOCIATION (LJSA) Meeting Minutes July 9th, 2008
Next Meeting: LJSA Meeting Wednesday, September 10th, 2008 7 PM at Martin-Johnson House (Bldg T-29) at Scripps Institute of Oceanography. Attendance- Weissman, Varon, Dahlberg, Luscomb, Heaton, Dicks, Lucas, Salmon, Metzger, Lesser, Tihayni. Nissan, Coakley, Furtek, audience +10.
1. UCSD Representative- Milt Phegley reported on Southwest Fisheries Science Center project, community presentation was requested before public review was scheduled so Milt Phegley is suggesting having a public meeting on 8/13 at 7pm to discuss this project for anyone interested and this will serve as the community presentation. EIR is scheduled to be released for public review in mid-Sept.
2. June Minutes approved.
3. Treasurer’s Report- $ 3,679.49 +$25 in additions, $3,704.49 ending balance.
4. CD1-Keely Sweeny reported that the Chabad project will be going back to T&T, LJ Shores Permit review committee and then it will be presented at CPA. Edith Gutierrez is the Hearing manager; for questions/issues contact egutierrez@sandiego.gov. City Attorney has allowed Hillel project to go forward even with current litigation underway. Notice of Application was provided to CPA and residents received mailed notices July 1st regarding this project. DSD website has the flow chart of the process for both of these projects. The Kayak RFP is close to missing the August deadline for the issuance of the Kayak RFP for next season. Stakeholder’s meeting would be required to kick off process. Kellogg Park Playground update is that City of San Diego Park and Recreation Department did not find any funding for replacement. CD1 Council President, Scott Peters has requested $282K for playground equipment replacement. It is suggested that LJSA provide Keely with the features and design requested by the community to the City planners on this project. Keely will get back to LJSA this month. Security cameras funding is still in question.
5. Police Report-Alan Alvarez reported that 4th of July went very well this year. Via Capri and Rue Denise have experienced a “crime wave”. It is requested that police scan more than 1 mile. There are issues with crimes still not being reported, police request that we report these incidents. Purses and other items are still being left in cars and this is not recommended. It was suggested to bring Bird Rock neighborhood watch program back as an agenda item at Sept. LJSA meeting.

9. Chabad Project-Scheduled to be heard at August Land Use meeting. Project is a single family residence zone, traffic study has been done and showed that it would add 1 second impact and there are bulk and scale issues. The project’s unapproved uses should be discussed. Sherri reported that 2 letters were sent on behalf of LJSA related to parking and preschool use.
